It all started many years ago when my girlfriends brother started a band. I had always been interested by sound and gadgets and so bought a small sound system. The band folded, my girlfriend became my wife but I still had the sound system. I started working with other local bands around the south coast. This became very busy and I made the decision to leave my full time job.
Along came the "punk" era, this was chaotic and I was hardly ever home. With two young children, I decided to have a break from touring and try a different, more civilised part of the industry. I wanted to try working in the corporate and conference side of things. enjoying the luxury of carpet instead of sticky smelly dance floors.
I started work at The Winter Gardens in Bournemouth until it closed in 1985 and transferred to The Pavilion Theatre and then onto The Bournemouth International Centre, after an eight year stint I decided to leave The BIC and start again working for myself.
The equipment grew from just sound, into projectors, screens and pretty much anything with a plug on it. The early days involved 35mm slide and overhead projectors. I'm so glad things have moved on from then.
Advances in technology never stand still, and the equipment list is changing all the time, thankfully most things have got smaller and lighter.
We now supply most of the Bournemouth and New Forest conference venues and hotels with their audio visual requirements, as well as working directly with clients.
I still enjoy working with bands and entertainment when I get the opportunity.
This summer is looking busy with a rise in supplying sound for outside weddings and marquee events.
Early days, Bridport Beach Event. Supplying the PA system for many local bands for this free festival. We were using a low-loader truck as a stage and struggling for a power supply.
Bournemouth Southbourne Pinecliffe 1978
